Former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed his condolences over the passing of the Iyalode of Egbaland and Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson. In a statement personally signed by Amosun, he described Lawson as a woman who lived a life of courage, service, and dedication to causes she believed in.
Amosun highlighted Lawson’s achievements in business, starting from her humble beginnings as a classroom teacher to establishing renowned schools in Ogun State. He acknowledged her contributions to women’s emancipation, trade development, the growth of Egbaland, unity in Yorubaland, and overall development in Nigeria.
As an educationist, Lawson founded Lawson’s Childcare Nursery and Primary School, as well as the Lawson Group of Schools, which are well-known institutions in Ogun State. She also held various leadership positions in business organizations, including being the President of the Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce and the first woman to be elected President of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA).
Lawson’s contributions were recognized with the prestigious national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR). She was also known for her role in propagating Christianity in Egbaland and her advocacy for women’s rights and the oppressed in society.
Amosun expressed his sympathy for Lawson’s children, grandchildren, and the entire Lawson and Jiboku families as they mourn her passing. He prayed for comfort and strength for the family during this difficult time and asked for eternal rest for Iyalode Alaba Lawson.
The passing of Iyalode Alaba Lawson is a loss felt by many, as she leaves behind a legacy of courage, service, and dedication. Her contributions to education, business, and social causes will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
