The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Mr Abiodun Mustapha Alamutu, has expressed the commitment of the Police Command to ensuring that a safe ambience prevails in the state to enable investors and their businesses thrive.
Alamutu, an economist, said the main thrust of the present administration of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) entails bridging the gap between the police and the public through knowing the people better to understand their peculiar challenges and how best to tackle them.
The CP added that the Nigerian Police will not fold it hands and watch land grabbers descrupt the peace and coexistence of any community in Ogun state. He further condemned the activities of people who are out to frustrate others out of business, especially the real estate business where the land grabbers could make it nightmarish to the real estate operators, he advised that one should not wait until issues arose before identifying and cooperating with the police to improve the security of one’s area.
The new commissioner made this known in his office at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta when he received the CEO of Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited, Ambassador (Dr) Babatunde Adeyemo, who paid him a courtesy visit .
Dr. Adeyemo was in Eleweran to seek necessary partnership with the Police Commissioner and the Command towards making Abeokuta in particular and Ogun State in general more secured, even as he used the occasion to express the intention of his company, Pelican valley Nigeria LTD, to donate a Police post to the Command which, if approved, is expected to be located near one of his estates in Masa – Kobape corridor of Ogun State.
The realtor was accompanied by Bobawoga of Orile Itesi in Egbaland, High Chief Olawale Olaleye, the Director of Operations; Pelican Valley Ltd, Mr. Ife Daniel, the company Secretary, Barrister Aminat Adisa Kudaisi, Esq among others.
CP Alamutu who appreciated the visit, commended Adeyemo for engaging in his real estate business with decency and honesty, saying he needed nobody to educate him about the Pelican Valley CEO’s proven integrity, submitting that it was something he discovered by himself.
He revealed that the issue of land grabbing is high on the front burner of the Police Command with a view to tackling it decisively and urged Adeyemo to count on him and his men for support at any point in time as their doors are open for him.
The Police boss in Ogun State also assured Ambassador Adeyemo of the Command’s support to make his real estate business thrive.
CP Alamutu said,”What I want bring to out is that someone telling me that your integrity is not in doubt is just needless. I don’t have any doubt about that. I was able to see that(integrity) in you the last time we had a meeting together.
“Identifying with people is the major thrust of the current administration of the Nigeria Police Force(NPF) because the Acting Inspector General of Police wants us to bridge that gap between the police and the public. And the way to bridge it is to engage in constant consultation. Aside from that, we are preaching team work and collaboration with sister agencies.
“Similarly, we have to make such consultation with members of the public because you are the one we are working to protect and we have to know you very well because you are the one to guide us about the kind of assistance you want from us. The nature of crime is such that what is prominent in one place may not be the same in some other places. We need to know and identify communities, come to terms with their particular or peculiar challenges. That will guide us on how best to tackle such challenges. If we are not that close with you, we won’t be able to assist you as we are supposed to.
“So, it is my pleasure having you around and we hope to extend such consultation to every member of the society because everybody is useful. It is good you visited us here, extend same to other police unit at wherever you have property. Know the police DPO and men covering that area. It costs nothing to know them in case issues come up at any time. It is not when issue arises you would want to know who is in charge of that area.
“You know that in your trade, some people are out to frustrate others because they know you will not have time to be pursuing court cases and that is their own stock in trade, they want to frustrate people out of business, that is why the issue of Land grabbing is on the front burner of our programme. I’m happy to receive you, you can count on us at any point in time that our doors are open. We will give you all the moral support to ensure that your business moves on.”
Speaking earlier, Dr. Babatunde Adeyemo said, “We have been doing real estate business in the last 12 years without issues requiring us to call the Police and it is also without any court case. However, be that as it may, we as a socially responsible organisation operating within your jurisdiction, we deem it necessary to seek your partnership towards making Abeokuta in particular and Ogun State in general more secured. We are willing to complement your effort by using this medium to seek your guidance on the process of donating a police post close to one of our estates in Masa community.
“Mr Commissioner Sir, my personal experience and discovery while celebrating my 44th birthday with Ibara Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) inmates revealed to me that most of the convicts and awaiting trial inmates would not have been there if proper prevention actions were made. In view of this, I wish to donate a police post with a conscious effort to prevent crime and promote peaceful co-existence in the immediate community. We are indeed grateful to CP for honouring our request for this visit and thank you for welcoming us.”
