As the 2023 national census is fast approaching, the National Population Commission, NPC has assured Nigerians of conducting a free, fair and credible census.
The NPC chairman, Hon Nasir Isa Kwarra made this known while delivering his key-note address at the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop, organized for members of the commission in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state capital.
Hon Kwarra said the commission is committed to an "accurate, reliable and acceptable census that will provide demographic data for sustainable national planning and socio economic development."
Speaking further, he said the human population to be counted is large and the information to be collected is numerous in view of the need to provide a wide range of data for planning purposes.
“There is also the need to process, store and disseminate the data in appropriate format for data users. There is no way this huge task can be undertaken unless the functionaries are properly trained and retrained for this complex assignment.”
He also assured that the commission will leave no stone unturned to bequeath a legacy of accurate, reliable and acceptable census to the nation.
